A few weeks ago we asked you to list questions that you have about the Christian faith, and did we get alot of questions! Questions are a very good thing, and each week we'll try to provide our best response to them.
We invite you to post your thoughts about what has been said, and feel very free to see things differently or follow-up with some thoughts of your own. Discussion is a very good thing too.
This week's question is; "Why Did Jesus Have to Die On A Cross?"
We've got two weeks of Solid Rock action underway so stay tuned, be informed and get involved people!
This Wednesday night (Nov.9at 7pm) we are having a Remembrance Day theme with a special guest and a very special story to share with you all. It promises to be another great night in the Solid Rock Cafe. If you've got a dance that night I encourage you to come to the Cafe, and hear our guest first.
On Friday night (Nov.11) the gang from Banana Productions is putting on their second Solid Rock Cafe with great atmosphere and great live music. Stay tuned for more info in the next couple of days.
Next Wednesday ( Nov.16 at 7pm) We're back in the cafe for the topic "Owning Your Faith", led by Dan James. Lot's of great stuff to wrap your brain around!
On Sunday Nov. 20 the SRY is leading the worship service at First Baptist. Great music, and great truth, and all glory goes to God. It all begins at 10:45 and we'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas you have about making it an awesome time.
It's Monday, and that means it's time for our weekly SR Trivia competition. Since beginning again our winners have been Emma Stewart and Kyle Smith. Who will be taking home this week's fabulous prize?
This week's question is all about TV shows and those who watch them. I'll list five of your youth leader's favourtite TV shows and you must match the leader with the show. Easy enough?
The shows are: 1. The O.C. 2. Monday Night Football 3. Alias 4. Just For Laughs Gags 5. Extreme Home Makeover
The Leaders are: Stephen, Shawn, Michele, Tracy, and Becky
New for this week I'll be allowing more than one person to answer the same way. Meaning, there might be more than one winner, but they will have to share the winning prize if it happens. Only one guess per Rocker. Best wishes everyone, and the winner will be announced on Wednesday night.
This Wednesday we are off to do a good deed by having a bottle drive to support the Arthritis Society. Our own Solid Rock leader Melissa Harwood is running a marathon to help raise money and we're jumping in to help too.
The cafe doors open at 6:30, things get started at 7 and we'll get in groups and head out to different parts of Charlottetown to collect bottles. We'll only be out for an hour but make sure to dress warm and wear some sneakers.
Many thanx to those who helped out with our first Clothing Depot of the season on Sunday afternoon. What a crowd, what a great time, and what a help!
Got food? This week we're testing your knowlege of food "slang". I'll give you a sentence and you tell me what I'm ordering. Ready?
"I'd like to order Adam and Eve on a raft with extra axle grease. In the alley I'll also have one life-preserver,and throw in some joe with sand and a small squeeze."
First person to correctly guess what I'm ordering is this week's trivia winner, and you'll enjoy all the fame and fabulous prizes that go with it! Congrats to last weeks winner Emma Stewart (her first e-trivia victory)
This Friday night (October 28th) will go down in history as the first ever Solid Rock Cafe! It's going to be open from 6-12 and will feature drinks, snacks, music, and good times.
This is the first of what will be a bi-weekly cafe. Ever other Friday night you'll be able to come by and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. Come to study, come to hang out, or come to enjoy the music and other entertainment we'll be having.
The Solid Rock Cafe is run by Banana Productions, a group of senior high students from Solid Rock Youth. And in case you didn't know (how you couldn't escapes me) they are selling t-shirts as well!
We'd love to see you there so please stop on by!
Howdy folks. As we have a new website up and running we'd also like to introduce with it a few new guidelines for when you post a comment.
- Comments on this site are meant for communicating with all of us here at SRY not just your small group of friends. Use MSN for that please.
- We will now have zero tolerance for comments that we feel are inappropriate. What's inappropriate? Personal insults, cursing, totally useless banter, etc. Those comments will be hidden or deleted.
- Keep on topic! Comments on a blog are designed to talk about the blog post, not about other things. If we post a item on say...a camp, we expect the conversation to follow will be about the camp. Sure, a little deviation is ok but this is not a place to have conversations about everything and anything
- This is a public place. Before you post a comment on here imagine yourself standing in front of our youth group, or our church, and saying those things out loud.
- This site is here to help build community amongst all of us. Be polite, respectful, and all that jazz.
Yeah, we know... rules can be a drag. Please understand though that we're trying to make this site a place for everyone from SRY to enjoy.
It's Monday and it's time for you to know what's happening in your youth group! (if knowledge is power then we're aiming to be the most powerful youth group in the world, maybe the entire universe!)
This Wednesday night dress warm, wear sneakers and get ready for one unusual scavenger hunt! We'll meet at the cafe (doors open at 6:30, and things get moving by 7) our hunt will take us all over the down town.
Any Jr. High youth planning to attend the Challenge youth conference in New Minas Nova Scotia this week-end must have their registration forms into us by Wed. night and we'll need 15 youth in order to make the weekend work. It's a great weekend!
This Friday night from 6-midnight the Solid Rock Cafe will be open with great music and one great place to spend an evening. Watch our website for all the latest details from the Banana Productions gang.
Also, Solid Rock weekly trivia is back so check out the previous post and get those brains in gear!
It's been three months since weekly trivia was a regular part of our Solid Rock website so we're long over-due!
With cooler weather approaching I've selected a question about heat...hot peppers to be exact. Place the following four types of peppers in order from warm, to hot, to extremely hot, to inferno. (impossible to eat). The peppers are: Jalapeno, Pure Capsaicin, Bell and Habanero.
First person with the correct combination wins a fabulous prize and as always only one guess per rocker. Best wishes and welcome back!!
